For those who know me best, I hold my portrait work so close to my heart. I struggle often sharing my images as they truly are a labor of love. Several months ago, I had a beautiful client in for a fine art maternity session. I have a gorgeous client closet and Shelby picked some of my most favorite dresses. I had special ordered an outfit for her son Quentin to wear with the idea of capturing mother and son together. Quentin posed like a pro and I paid extra attention to making my lighting perfect. I immediately had an idea... I have worked for years to perfect my lighting and editing. What if? What if I could possibly be talented enough to enter the most prestigious photography competition in the world. I decided after editing this stunning session this image in particular was worthy.
Shelby and Quentin helped me achieve my goal. I was awarded a Silver along with Honors of Excellence by WPPI with judges notes saying I excelled at my lighting and creativity. I happy cried when I logged in to see that I (I!) had actually won!
I have included a few additional images from this absolutely stunning session. They are coming back for a family session in August, now a family of four! I cannot wait to squeeze their new bundle of joy.
I plan to enter into the second half of the competition later this year along with the print competition that takes place in February of 2020. Reaching for our goals, even if we fail is the only way to excel in this industry... and life! How boring we would all be if we sat along the sidelines. I felt like a fraud at first, could it even be possible and it was!
I have a 1:1 mentoring session this October with my idol and the Queen of all fine art portraiture, Paulina Duczman and I cannot wait. I plan to continue my training every year to fine tune my work to provide the absolute best for my clients. I strive to provide one of a kind luxury product to each and every person that books in a session with me.
Thank you for reading and happy capturing!
